Project: Biz City

Overview

Biz City

A photo-comic animation inspired by Frank Miller's Sin City comics and the movie. The photos were shot in Lahti, Finland. Since Lahti is also known as "Business City", I did this hard-boiled story when tasked with doing a digital photography presentation with the theme of "Lahti 100" (years).

A short and simple project that I enjoyed doing once I got the idea of the Biz City comic. I'm pleased with how the animation turned out. Shooting the photos out in the cold was hard work (especially for the actors), but once I got to post-processing and putting the pages together things started clicking.

I used a HP Photosmart 850 camera and a tripod for the shooting, Photoshop for the processing and After Effects for the animation.

To enhance the Lahti setting I included landmarks like the railway station, the twin radio towers, the "Trio" Mall and the Lake Vesijärvi Port with the Sibelius Hall. Special thanks to Molly Malone's Pub for letting us shoot the bar sequence there.
